Summer is a time when it is even more important than usual to take care of your skin. Since we spend a lot more time outside in the summer, it's time to whip out the sunscreen and the hats! I never leave the house without my hat and have always been very careful about how long I am in the sun. I love big hats because they protect your face from the sun and against brown spots, premature wrinkles, and irritation. Many of the skin care products we use are sensitive to the sun and can cause dry or peeling skin. This is another reason why hats should be a part of anyone's summer wardrobe. Not only do they look classic with minimal effort, they also do wonders for your face! For less than $30 you can find a high quality hat that you love and will prevent skin problems in the future. Find a hat that you know you will want to wear everyday. I love neutral colored hats because they can be used year round. I love floppy hats especially because they can be folded and stored in your bag without getting damaged. Even if you are in your teens it is never too early to start seriously caring for your skin and a big hat is the perfect way to start!
Floral prints are timeless and elegant. I love them because they can make you look vibrant and effortlessly beautiful and you can pair them with SO many different colored shoes! Today I went to a summer bbq and was going for a cute but casual look. I immediately went for this colorful dress from Forever 21 and my white Steve Madden wedges. I would definitely wear this dress with neutral heels, yellow heels or orange heels. It goes with so many colors. I kept the hair and makeup very natural today since I ended up going to the beach after :) Gotta love LA weather!
The World Cup is here and it's all everyone has been talking about! I decided to get into the spirit too. Although I was born and raised in Los Angeles, both of my parents are Ecuadorian and I am so proud of my culture. The food, the music, the fashion, has shaped me into who I am. I am not a huge soccer fan but when Ecuador is playing I definitely have to represent! I wore an Ecuador soccer jersey, distressed royal blue jeans, and fringe wedges to a World Cup watching party I attended. I chose the blue distressed jeans since yellow and blue are my go to summer color combo. I love how vibrant the colors are and how they look good on everyone. This outfit was extremely colorful, so I went with neutral wedges to keep it casual and not too over the top. I also chose wedges since they add height and are still very comfortable :)
The World Cup is an opportunity for people to come together and celebrate the country they are from and it is also a chance to rock some bright colors and find creative ways to express themselves through the colors of their flags! I hope you are enjoying watching all the games so far :)
There is a way to be comfortable and still look well put together. Who doesn't love t-shirts? I love t-shirts but being that I am forever overdressed, I have to step up my t-shirt game a little bit! I found this green and navy top recently from TJ Maxx. It is from the brand W118 by Walter Baker. I paired it with the comfiest pair of distressed white jeans from Target, and completed the outfit with my favorite navy heels from Steve Madden. I loved this outfit because it is appropriate for a day or night look.

(Unfortunately it cannot be found online at this time, but here is the website! Walter Baker)
*Here are some similar shirts that I found that are also quite fancy and affordable!
Last night I went to a farewell dinner for one of my good friends who is moving. Since the restaurant I was going to was upscale, I made sure I dressed appropriately. You can't go wrong with a little black dress! This one is from the brand, A. Byer, and I love it because it has an Audrey Hepburn look to it (and I paid less than $10 for it!). The gold details make it perfect to pair with gold or black heels. I decided to go bold with my heels and wear the Misaki by GX by Gwen Stefani heels from Shoedazzle. These heels are HIGH and I would not recommend wearing them if you are going to an event and will be standing for several hours. I would recommend them for a dinner or somewhere where you will only be out for a couple of hours. You want to be comfortable. I love the color of the heels and how they add some edginess to the outfit.
Since the neckline of the dress has beautiful gold details, I decided to show that and put my hair up into a high bun with my hair donut (Found here!). The makeup was simple and I focused mostly on contouring my cheekbones, highlighting my cupid's bow with a champagne color eye shadow to give the illusion of fullerlips, and adding a little more mascara than usual to make the eyes stand out more.
I love mixing and matching styles and I love how a look can be classy, elegant, and sexy at the same time when the right pieces are put together! The heels add that unexpected touch in this outfit. Don't be afraid to be a little daring with your looks. Whether that's wearing red heels, a floppy hat, or overalls, you never know if you'll end up loving it if you don't try it out!
It's no secret that I do everything in my power to maintain healthy skin by using natural skincare and makeup products. One thing I have not shared yet is what I eat to achieve radiant skin. I have 2 recipes to share today that have played a major role in my everyday routine to glow from the inside out!
Recipe #1: Pomegranate Chia Tea
I love making this tea right before I go to sleep and having it ready to go for the next morning. The ingredients in the tea are SO good for your skin. The organic green tea hibiscus alone tones the skin, protects it from sun damage (since it is packed with antioxidants), reduces redness and prevents wrinkles. The chia seeds contain the highest natural source of omega 3 fatty acids making them essential to anyone who wants a flawless, dewy complexion. Pomegranate juice not only tastes delicious, but it also stimulates collagen production, hydrates the skin and fights redness and breakouts.
How to make it:
1. Make the green tea hibiscus with 32 oz. of water and 4 tea bags. All the tea to cool for 10 minutes.
2. Add 1/3 cup of chia seeds to the tea.
3. Add 1/2 cup of pomegranate juice to the tea.
4. Leave in the refrigerator overnight in a glass container.
5. Enjoy the next morning and drink using a straw to avoid staining your teeth!
*Side note-All products are from Costco or Trader Joe's.You can add more or less of the chia seeds depending on what you want the consistency to be. I like to add a lot of chia seeds because I cannot taste them-so might as well sneak them in there! Also, if you would like to sweeten the tea up a bit you can use a tablespoon of organic blue agave or Stevia. I drink it without any sweeteners but I have family members who will only drink it if I add agave. Everyone has different tastes, find what works for you! :)
Recipe #2: Summer Salad
I have always loved enjoying avocado with lemon as a snack and I decided to add a few more ingredients to make it an even more delicious dish. By adding tomato, cucumber, cilantro, olive oil and lemon, I add a variety of ingredients with different flavors that are all wonderful for your skin. Avocados are packed with vitamins A & E which make the skin appear fresh and moisturized. It also fights against wrinkles and gets rid of dead skin cells. Tomatoes have anti aging properties as well as the ability to shrink large pores and fight against acne. Cucumbers reduce inflammation and also fight against signs of aging. Cilantro fights against blackheads, oily skin, and acne. Lemons fight against blackheads, acne, and age spots. Finally, olive oil is packed with anti inflammatory properties and collagen.
How to make it:
1. Slice 4 organic persian cucumbers, 3 medium sized organic tomatoes, and 1 avocado into bite size slices.
2. Chop 2 tablespoons of cilantro.
3. Mix the ingredients in a large bowl and add 2 tablespoons of olive oil and add the juice from half of a lemon.
*Side note-You can add a pinch of sea salt at the end if you wish for taste. Not only is this salad tasty and filling, in my experience, it has always been a huge hit at any potluck I have taken it to. All of these ingredients found in this salad can be used topically, but they also make for a refreshing dish! Remember, you are what you eat :)
I hope you try these recipes and you love them as much as I do and know that what you're eating is going to make you glow!
One of my favorite things about the summer is that I get to wear my long summer dresses. I recently came across a dress (at Target of all places!) that caught my eye. I have had people ask if this dress was imported from another country or what boutique it was from and it was just as shocking to them that this stunning dress was from Target. I always seem to find great pieces there.
I love this dress because it gives the illusion of being a two piece set. The cut of the dress is very flattering for petite girls and the sleeves have a beautiful pattern. I love that this dress is very conservative in the amount of skin shown but it also form fitting and perfect for accentuating curves. Since I was wearing this dress to dinner, I paired it with navy heels to dress the look up a bit. The purse is vintage (Chaus) and gives the outfit a classy touch. I used hot rollers in my hair for 5 minutes to give the hair some volume and messy waves.
Unfortunately, this dress is no longer in the Target website but I will keep an eye out for when they restock and post the link here! I bought it about 2 weeks ago so it might be available at your local store!
The reason I have come to love the "no makeup" makeup look is because I still look like myself by enhancing my features, but I don't feel like I have a pound of makeup on. By using a few products I am able to appear youthful, fresh, and awake. These are the products I use everyday to achieve a fresh faced look!
On the Skin:
For the "no makeup" makeup look, it is important that your skin looks like skin. It is so obvious when makeup is applied with a heavy hand and there are unnecessary layers of liquid foundation and powder. In my opinion, it ages the skin. To avoid this, I create the perfect canvas by applying the Trader Joe's Nourish Antioxidant Facial Serum as a primer. This smooths the skin and prepares it for the next step, BB cream. My favorite BB cream is the Garnier BB Cream Miracle Skin Perfector because it leaves the skin looking flawless without leaving it looking cakey. If I need to conceal a blemish, I use the Vichy Dermablend Foundation-Nude with a tiny concealer brush and only conceal that blemish. This foundation is often used by makeup artists to cover scars and tattoos. A little goes a long way with this product.
Applying blush has the power to make someone who hasn't slept all night look wide awake. My current favorite is the Physicians Formula Airbrushing Blush-Rose. Since this blush is so pigmented, there is no need to apply a lot. One swipe on the apples of the cheeks is enough.
A "no makeup" makeup look doesn't mean that there can't be anything on the eyes. I love using the Victoria's Secret Jet Setter Palette for all occasions but especially for the "no makeup" look. I use the bottom left gold color all across my lid and then use the copper color, the second to last color in the left hand column of the palette on the crease. These colors give the eyes dimension make them appear larger. I usually tight line or draw a thin cat eye for this look after I have completed applying my eyeshadows. I use the Physicians Formula Custom Eyeliner Trio in the dark brown or black colors, depending on if I am going out in the daytime or nighttime. I use dark brown in the daytime because it is more natural and less harsh than black eyeliner. For nighttime, I use black eyeliner because it appears better in pictures and gives the eyes a glamourous look. My all time favorite mascara to complete the eye look is L'Oreal Paris Telescopic Mascara in Carbon Black. I love this mascara because you apply 2 coats and it makes your lashes appear long and clump free.
That wasn't so bad, was it? I swear by these products and every person I have ever recommended them to has fallen in love with them. All the products I listed can be found at your local drug store or grocery store but are very high quality.
*One last tip for the road!-When doing the "no makeup" makeup look it is best to apply the makeup in natural light (next to a window) or even better, outside! Natural light is very unforgiving and you will know if you have applied too much or too little by applying your makeup in the same lighting you will be in all day.
Thanks for taking a peek into my makeup bag and have a wonderful weekend! :)
Earlier this week I had the pleasure of modeling some dresses and accessories for Audrey K Boutique in Burbank, California. Let me tell you, I could livein this store. I have always been a fan of 1950's clothing since I believe it is timeless, classy, and elegant. One of my favorite dresses from the shoot was the"Charlie Brown" dress. I love how comfortable it is and how tiny it makes the waist look because of the black belt. I was also in love with the shoes that were paired with this dress. If you know me, you know that 99.9% of the time I am wearing heels. These black heels completed the look.
Hair and Makeup: Since the dress has a collar that is eye catching, it is best to leave the hair in a loose bun or a high ponytail to make sure that it is out of the way. The makeup was light and natural (as always), but blush was a definite must for this look. Blush can make any girl look healthy and radiant. The glasses were my favorite accessory for sure. I wear my Michael Kors glasses almost everyday but after seeing these frames I think it's time I upgrade! They are perfect for any girl who wants to add a vintage touch to her everyday look.

If you would like to visit Audrey K Boutique in person, (which I highly recommend because it is a vintage lover's dream come true), her store is located at 3414 W. Magnolia Blvd. Burbank, CA 91505. The boutique can also be found on Instagram @audreykboutique. You might see a familiar face modeling their new arrivals very soon!
This is the first of many vintage looks to come. I hope you enjoyed!
Everything in this photo is from Goodwill. Crazy right?!
It is no surprise that as a college student, the thrift store is my best friend. My favorite thing about thrift stores is that you find pieces that no one else will be wearing at an extremely low price. I can honestly say that 90% of the clothes I own are from a local thrift store. It's funny when people ask me where I got an item of clothing or where I got my shoes thinking it's an expensive brand and I tell them that I paid less than $15 for the entire outfit. I have been shopping at thrift stores since I was 14 years old and over the years I have discovered how to be a pro thrift store shopper! Here are my top 8 tips for thrift shopping!
Have a budget-Going into a thrift store without a budget is a recipe for disaster. If you're anything like me and take the whole store into the fitting room because everything is "on sale," you're setting yourself up to buy things you probably don't need and will never wear. The thrift store is a magical place for clothes and shoes especially, and it is very easy to get carried away and spend more than you planned. Go in with a budget and stick to it!
Stock up on basics-Thrift stores are great because you can find timeless pieces to add to your wardrobe without spending a fortune. I stock up on oversized flannels, clutches, rings, crop tops, and high waisted skirts when I go thrift shopping. It is no secret that these pieces are overpriced in several stores. Why not purchase something for $5 at a thrift store that no one else will have?
Look for quality-Thrift stores carry a mix of brand new clothes that stores donated because they had to get rid of the past season's styles and clothes from decades ago. Look at the quality of the clothing before purchasing it. Ask yourself what condition the clothes are going to be in after 5 washes. If you think it will be faded and look old after a few washes, do not purchase it.
Make friends-Since I basically live at my local thrift stores, I have made friends that work there. This has definitely helped me in my shopping adventures. Thrift stores will always have sales that reduce the prices dramatically. My local thrift store has 75-90% off sales frequently! Having friends at the store who can contact you when these sales are taking place is a huge advantage. Also, because I have made friends at the thrift store and they know my style, they will put items aside that they think I would like and show them to me the next time I come in. It is a smart idea to make friends with those who work in the same place where you shop because they see hundreds of items of clothes come in everyday and they could come in contact with a hidden gem and save it for you! (*Side note-Make conversation with the people shopping! A few months ago, a woman was about to purchase brand new black Jeffrey Campbell boots at my local Goodwill. I asked out of curiosity what size they were and they were a size 7 (my size!). I told her that Jeffrey Campbell shoes were very comfortable and that she was going to love them. She told me that the boots were not for her and that she was getting them for her daughter. A few moments later, she reconsidered and asked me if I wanted them because she was not sure that her daughter would like them. Long story short, I got a brand new pair of black Jeffrey Campbell Lita boots that day for $14.99 just because I made conversation!)
Set a time limit-I could be at the thrift store the whole day if I wanted to. I love seeing clothes from different eras and incorporating them with clothes from today. However, I know that I can't spend all my time at the thrift store since I am always on the go. When I decide to go shopping, I set a time limit so I don't end up staying there for hours and I stick to the time limit!
If you aren't in love with it, don't buy it-If you're on the fence about an item of clothing, don't buy it. I have found that if I am not completely obsessed with an item, enough that I want to wear it out of the store that very minute, I will not buy it. Buying things you are on the fence about in the store will lead to it being in the back of your closet for the next 10 years waiting to be worn someday!
Don't buy something just because it's on sale-I know. When something is on sale it is extremely difficult to say no to it. Stay strong! Ask yourself: Do I need this? What am I going to wear this with? When am I going to where this?Answering these questions before making a purchase will save you time and money. You will not have to come back to the store to return it and you won't waste money on something you will never wear!
Mix and match-Thrift stores are a place where you can find inspiration everywhere. Take advantage of this! Be bold and daring in your fashion choices. Mix and match vintage pieces with modern pieces. For instance, one of my favorite things to do at thrift stores is to find vintage jackets and blazers and pair them with clothes I already own such as a classic white button down shirt, dark denim, and heels. A vintage jacket or vintage jewelry can really bring an outfit to life and no one else will have it!
Follow these rules and I guarantee you that you will get the most out of your thrift shopping experience! *For my LA peeps!-Some of my favorite thrift stores in the LA area are:
American Way in Burbank
Goodwill in Northridge
American Cancer Society in Burbank
Salvation Army in Burbank
I always find great deals at these stores and they tend to have brand new merchandise all the time, which I love.
